I'm a Purex girl. I like buying the laundry soap from the store. I admit it. But my sister in law has a million kids (ok only 5 lol) and goes through soooo much laundry she decided to make her own laundry soap. She gave me her recipe and I'm going to attempt it. I decided to share it on here for all those who want to save alot of cash since laundry soap can get quite expensive. She claims it works better than tide. And she knows her laundry!
1 quart Water (boiling)
2 cups Bar soap (grated)
2 cups Borax
2 cups Washing Soda
- Grate the soap into a sauce pan. We use a food processor and it makes the job much easier. Combine it with the water and heat on low heat until soap is dissolved.
- Pour the soap water into a large, clean bucket and add the Borax and Washing Soda. Stir well with a wisk if possible until it's pretty much dissolved.
- Add 2 gallons of water,Stir!
- Cover pail and use 1/4 cup for each load of laundry. Stir the soap each time you use it (will gel up).
* You can use a few drops of essential oils to help the smell.
* Try to only use natural %100 soaps like Dovbe or Fels Naptha (Can be found at Macey's) If you use Fels Naptha use only one bar because it is a bigger bar than most.
* You can also use a soft water tablet in it to help if the soap is too hard on your clothes depending on the water you have.
* Putting a few marbles in the final laundry soap bucket or container will help. Kind of like beads in your nail polish.
( All ingredients can be found at Macey's or Walmart. The Washing Soda and Borax are both in boxes like what dishwasher detergent is in.)
